Wednesday.
Wednesday was the day... the day that Northway represents us on Honduran soil. Bill and Karen James have been meeting with government officials over the course of the last few months and they went down yesterday to take care of a few things before we go down to change some lives.
He sent me and email update and I wanted to share it with you all:
"It’s only day two... It feels like week. And it seems longer than a mere 2 days before our whole North Way team is finally together in San Pedro Sula!
Karen and I were overwhelmed with love and with need. And we were blown away by the impact of the Community Transformation Center here in Tegucigalpa that has been operational for only 5 months. It is clearly a model to be considered, as it sits squarely on the shoulders of “orphan prevention.” This one serves 1,500 families in a horribly blighted area and has many legs of impact. We had the blessing of visiting a mother who is caring for 15 children -- all part of her family — they all live in a dirt and plywood hovel no bigger than a single car garage with no electricity or running water. It was truly the worst living conditions we have ever seen. Yet the kids were neat and clean, and she cried when we were able to help put shoes on the kids and dress them in newly donated clothes. She said that no one has ever done anything like this for them. The CTC is trying to bring her as much relief as they can.
We are exhausted at the prospect of the amount of work that needs to be done, and the Lord is stretching our vision of what the Church and North Way’s part might be. It is great to be with the Honduran people who are so loving and persevere in the face of so much adversity. The hundreds of kids we have met stole our hearts and were a powerful reminder of why Jesus said: “as you do unto the least of these, you do unto Me. And we met unbelievable teen leaders at the CTC who love Jesus and are leaders and mentors in their own right reaching their own generation. It’s like LAMP on steroids and notched down about 2 generations!
Greetings from Kara and Wendy! We toured Kara’s new transition house and met “her girls.” Kara is clearly in charge and has a real grip on the language now. You will be impressed!
We can’t wait to be with you when you get here! We are praying for you, and already see how God is going to use this team for His glory!
